Pool Etiquette

How we share the swim lane during practice

Always swim on the right side of the lane, following a circle swim pattern.

Wait 10 seconds before you start to follow the swimmer in front of you. This creates some space between the two of you, making it easier to make your turns without colliding.

If you are faster than the swimmer in front of you, wait 20 seconds before you follow them off the wall.

If you are slower than the swimmer in front of you, wait 5 seconds before you start to follow the swimmer in front of you.

Always swim complete laps of the pool. Rest only at the wall.

If you are slower than the swimmer behind you

  • Swim close to the right lane line to allow the faster swimmer to pass.
  • Or, wait at the wall until the faster swimmer turns. Then continue your swim.

When you rest at the wall, move to the outer corners of the lane so there is room for the other swimmers to turn in the middle of the lane.
